Gruha Jyothi Gruha Lakshmi Updates 2026; Bengaluru: In a significant move to plug leakages and eliminate fraudulent accounts, the Karnataka State Government has issued a mandatory directive for all existing beneficiaries of its flagship schemes—Gruha Jyothi (Free Electricity) and Gruha Lakshmi (₹2,000 Monthly Cash Transfer)—to resubmit their applications.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar clarified that the government is not stopping the welfare schemes but is conducting a transparent beneficiary verification drive after discovering massive anomalies worth crores.

Key Verification Rules Implemented:

Gruha Jyothi 2.0 Doorstep Verification: Launched on July 1, energy department officials are conducting a door-to-door survey to catch commercial meters claiming domestic benefits and individuals holding multiple meters under a single name. Beneficiaries are required to provide their Aadhaar card, Voter ID, PAN card, and rental agreements for inspection.

Gruha Lakshmi Biometric Cleanup: An investigation revealed that over ₹100 crore was wrongfully credited to deceased beneficiaries and income-tax payers. To fix this, the state has set up 17,000 biometric kiosks where women heads of households must undergo mandatory one-time fingerprint or iris verification.

How and Where to Reapply: Eligible residents can complete the verification and resubmit their fresh applications online through the official Seva Sindhu portal or offline via Bangalore One, Karnataka One, and Grama One centers across the state.
