In a deeply saddening development, Chennamma Devegowda (88), the wife of former Prime Minister of India and JDS supremo HD Devegowda, passed away today due to age-related ailments.
According to family sources, she had been suffering from age-related health complications for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru. Despite best efforts by the doctors, she breathed her last earlier today.
The Pillar of the Devegowda Family
Chennamma Devegowda was widely respected as the silent force and foundational pillar behind the prominent Devegowda family. Despite her husband rising to the highest political offices in the country as Chief Minister and later Prime Minister, Chennamma always chose to stay away from the political limelight. Coming from a humble background in Haradanahalli, Hassan, she dedicated her life to raising her family and stood firmly by HD Devegowda through all the turbulent ups and downs of his long political career.
She is survived by her husband HD Devegowda, her sons—Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and MLA HD Revanna—and her daughters and grandchildren.

As the news broke out, political leaders across party lines, including the Chief Minister of Karnataka, cabinet ministers, and opposition leaders, expressed their profound grief. Spiritual leaders from various mutts have also sent their condolences, praying for peace to the departed soul and strength for the Devegowda family to bear this immense loss.
